Diversity and Well-Being Committee

Mission

The mission of the Division III Commissioners Association (DIIICA) Diversity and Well-Being Committee (DWBC) is to work in conjunction with the members of the Division III Commissioners Association and their constituent conferences to develop strategies to foster an atmosphere of equity and respect for the dignity of every person associated with Division III intercollegiate athletic programs; to promote the engagement of diversity consciousness within the Division III membership; and to focus on supporting and enhancing the wellbeing of student-athletes.

Purpose
To provide a forum for communication and program development to address ways in which intercollegiate athletics can be conducted in an environment that promotes the equity and well-being of all of its participants: student-athletes, coaches, administrators, officials, and all others associated with intercollegiate athletics programs and events. The NCAA Division III Principles for Conduct of Intercollegiate Athletics, and specifically those related to diversity and well-being, should be applied to matters that affect the life of those participating in Division III intercollegiate athletics. These principles should also be manifested in the spectrum of policies and education affecting intercollegiate athletics programs and conferences. It is the responsibility of the DIIICA DWBC to:

(a) Share policies, best practices, and other resources that address diversity and well-being in intercollegiate athletics, consistent with the NCAA Division III Principles for Conduct of Intercollegiate Athletics; and

(b) Review and comment on NCAA legislation addressing diversity and well-being and consider advancing legislation change proposals; and

(c) Educate constituencies about the Principles in Constitution 2.2, 2.3, 2.6, and 2.7; and

(d) Collaborate with various related NCAA Committees and professional organizations (e.g. NACWAA, Committee on Womenʹs Athletics) to define ways to create a mutual benefit of their missions and the mission of the DWBC; and

(e) Review grant resources related to diversity and well-being.

Duties
Committee members shall work to support the stated mission and purpose of the Division III Commissioners Association Diversity and Well-Being Committee.
